the first visit

'Twas the night before traveling, when all through E.O.
Not a Founder was stirring, not even Sophro;
The suitcases were packed all neatly with care,
Knowing that morning soon would be there.
The LCs were nestled all snug in their bunks;
While dreaming of no more than 50-pound trunks;
And my sisters in their spirit jerseys, and I in my frocket,
Had just plugged all our electronics firm in their sockets,
When out from my phone there arose such a buzz,
I sprang from my bed to see who it was.
Across the screen my finger flew like a flash,
Unlocked and Messages opened in the blink of a lash.
When what to my excited eyes did the screen bestow,
But text in the bubble between my fingers below.
With a little love note negating my wary,
I knew in a moment it was from my Violet, Mary.
More rapid than Zappos the feelings they came,
And I thought and I wrought as I tried to give them a name.
Now excitement, now fright, now happiness, now sad,
I didn't want to leave my suitcase sisters or the good times we had.
And then, though I knew our time must postpone,
I reminded myself I was never alone.
We had been trained so well, from TME to Finance,
And could deliver a conversation workshop without a second glance.
A bundle of documents we have stored on Dropbox,
All easily accessible, it wouldn't take a fox.
My eyes how they twinkled, my thoughts, how cheery,
When I realized there really was no reason to worry.
My carryon beside me so plump and misshapen itself,
That I had to laugh when I saw it, in spite of myself;
Thinking of past consultants who slept in my very bed,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
We spoke not a word but still we all knew,
It will be the sisterhood that gets us all through,
And our family and friends who will offer support,
And Annie when she's not too busy reading our reports.
But I remind myself, as I get ready to say goodbye --
"I Believe, in Alpha Delta Pi."
